Gatineau, Quebec, February 5, 2025 – The Omanye Royal Kingdom proudly joined the Government of Canada’s official Black History Month celebration, held at the Canadian Museum of History under the theme “Black Legacy and Leadership: Celebrating Canadian History and Uplifting Future Generations.” Representing the Kingdom at this significant event were Lady Vergia, Lady Stephanie, and Lady Lisa, who attended in honor of the Kingdom’s deep commitment to cultural preservation, empowerment, and global unity among Black communities.
The event, led by the Honourable Kamal Khera, Minister of Diversity, Inclusion and Persons with Disabilities, featured a series of performances and speeches recognizing the invaluable contributions of Black Canadians. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was also in attendance, reaffirming the government’s dedication to diversity and inclusion.
Ministerial Address: Minister Khera delivered an inspiring speech, emphasizing the importance of celebrating the achievements of Black Canadians and ensuring continued support for Black-led initiatives. She stated, “The history of Black communities in Canada is an integral part of Canadian history. This year’s theme is about reflecting and celebrating the contributions of Black Canadians in shaping our country while paving the way for a more equitable and inclusive future.” She also announced that billions of dollars will be invested for the development of Black communities, supporting initiatives in entrepreneurship, education, and cultural preservation.
Video Address by the First Black Woman Elected to the House of Commons: The audience was honored with a special video message from Jean Augustine, the first Black woman elected to the House of Commons. In her address, she commended the ongoing efforts to recognize and uplift Black Canadians, emphasizing the importance of continued advocacy and leadership in shaping a more inclusive society.
Cultural Performances: Attendees were treated to a variety of performances, including traditional drumming, choir presentations, and dance, showcasing the richness and diversity of Black Canadian culture.
The presence of Lady Vergia, Lady Stephanie, and Lady Lisa underscored the Omanye Royal Kingdom’s ongoing mission to celebrate and uplift Black heritage. The event aligned with the Kingdom’s broader goals of fostering cultural exchange, economic empowerment, and leadership within Black communities worldwide.
“It was an honor to witness such a powerful acknowledgment of Black excellence and resilience,” said Lady Lisa. “The evening reinforced the importance of unity, leadership, and the continued efforts needed to ensure equity and opportunity for future generations.”

Addressing Systemic Challenges: Discussions highlighted the ongoing need to combat systemic racism and build inclusive spaces.
