OTTAWA, CANADA – May 9, 2025 – Her Royal Majesty Queen Vickylextar and a delegation from the Omanye Royal Kingdom joined a significant gathering at the University of Ottawa to advance the crucial conversation on reconciliation and healing. This follow-up session, a continuation of dialogues initiated during Black History Month, was organized in collaboration with students and faculty from the Black, African & Caribbean group of the University of Ottawa.
Lady Lisa, Outreach Coordinator for the Kingdom and member of both organizations, opened the event with a poignant introduction, reminding everyone of the important discussion held at the February event, and re-introducing the concept of reconciliation and its importance in our common objective to move forward and thrive as a united Society.
The event brought together a diverse group of individuals, representing various races, colors, and creeds, embodying the multicultural, multiracial, and multinational essence of the Omanye Royal Kingdom. The primary focus was to move beyond mere discussion and translate words into tangible actions that promote healing and reconciliation.
HRM Queen Vickylextar led the discussion during this event and emphasized a core principle: “Reconciliation begins with self”. She stressed the importance of self-reflection and inner healing as a foundation for bridging divides and fostering understanding. Her Majesty’s words were a powerful reminder that acknowledging past and present injustices is essential, but that true progress lies in choosing to heal and build a more unified future.
The discussions explored complex themes, including the historical context of racism, the ongoing effects of systemic inequalities, and the importance of creating safe spaces for open dialogue. Participants shared personal experiences and insights, with Prince Josiah movingly highlighting the profound impact of his mother’s strength and love as a guiding force in his life.
Several attendees offered powerful contributions:
The event fostered a spirit of open dialogue and vulnerability. Participants acknowledged the pain and anger that can result from past and present injustices, while also emphasizing the importance of forgiveness and choosing love as a pathway to break cycles of hatred.
The Omanye Royal Kingdom’s dedication to reconciliation aligns deeply with its core values of fostering unity, promoting understanding, and serving as a bridge between diverse communities. The Kingdom’s participation in this event underscores its commitment to creating a world where all individuals are treated with dignity, respect, and compassion.
A key outcome of the gathering was the commitment to establishing ongoing support systems for healing. To facilitate this, Omanye’s team offered support via group or individual sessions, designed to provide a structured and supportive environment for continued progress in the journey of reconciliation and healing.
